Meet the Craftsman

Nathan Daugherty

Owner and creator of Hardknot Woodcraft, Nathan has spent several years developing and focusing his trade. After building his first woodshop, he has found himself gravitating towards woodturning, specifically bowl making.

"As a young woodworker, it can be overwhelming to find a niche to fall into. For years I focused more on traditional furniture making, but more recently I've found working with the lathe to be quite enjoyable. The principals and tools of woodturning are relatively simple, yet mastery of the craft is both arduous and serene. I find that losing myself in the work to be effortless. With this I knew that I could pursue this passion further."

From the Tree

Sourcing Timber

Most of the wood used on the lathe is timber sourced from property that we own and manage. Whether we fell the tree, or find it fallen, we process the timber until ready to rough into blanks.

The majority of the wood used for boards, furniture, etc. is sourced from local mills, often Amish owned. Some is simply found or given by friends and neighbors in the community. Nearly all of it is locally harvested and processed.

No matter the source, the timber used in our pieces has grown for decades and will continue to live for years inside of your home.
